Export of ginger from India increased from 8,332.91 tons in 2007-08 to 35,616.35 tons in 2011-12. IISE-Varada is good quality and a high yielding variety of Ginger. It has plumpy rhizomes and medium-sized reddish-brown scales. Farmers say that the Varada variety is tolerant to diseases and has low fibre content.
Not only India is a leading ginger producer across the globe but also a leading global exporter of ginger. More than 50% of the total ginger production in India takes place in the Northeast, Uttarakhand and Sikkim areas.
